On February 28, the Olympus Billiard Club hosted a mass sports event among people with disabilities dedicated to Defender of the Fatherland Day and International Women's Day.

The organizers of the holiday were:

  • - Department of Physical Culture and Sports of the Ufa City District Administration of the Republic of Belarus;
  • - UIA "Sports Development Center" Ufa RB;
  • - Committee on Physical Culture and Sports of the Oktyabrsky district Administration of Ufa, RB;
  • - UGOI "MIR".

The assembled teams were invited to participate in billiards, checkers, chess and backgammon competitions.

On this day, the number of players exceeded the Organizers' expectations, which was a pleasant fact for them.

More than 100 people could barely fit in the club's gaming halls. Teams from Tuimaz, Kandrov, Beloretsk, Ust-Katava, Ufa societies of the disabled, boarding schools and correctional schools gathered here.

Sergey Stepanov, Head of the Ufa City Administration's Department of Physical Culture and Sports, and Vil Gabdullin, Chairman of the United Russia Party's Commission for the Development of Physical Culture and Sports, expressed victory wishes and festive congratulations at the opening.

Among the guests of honor was Irshat Fakhritdinov, Deputy of the State Duma of the 5th and 6th convocations of the Russian Federation. Participation in combat operations in Afghanistan, Chechnya and Abkhazia, where he was wounded, affected his health, so on this day Irshat Yunirovich came not only to support the participants of the competition, but also to compete with them.

After the grand opening, the sports part of the event began. Billiards and backgammon games began in the central hall after the draw.

In the next room, in a quieter and more thoughtful atmosphere, the winners of the draughts and chess games were determined.

There I noticed a young blind man who was sitting in front of a board with checkers. Shamil Zinatov lost his eyesight in early childhood, but this did not prevent him from learning to play checkers and chess. His hands help him to play, with which he feels the pieces on his own and the opponent's field. Shamil easily remembers the moves made in the game, and can notice the opponent's missed move. He was playing checkers that day, but he can also make the opposite player nervous in chess.

Although he did not enter the top three winners that day, he became a sensation for me.

Irshat Yunirovich did not take the lead either, but a man with a professional desire to win, smiling, admitted that he could not defeat such rivals.

Due to the large number of players, the competition ended late in the evening, but there was no place for fatigue. The excitement didn't let up until the results were announced.

The winners were awarded with cups, diplomas and medals. Valuable memorable gifts were also found by their owners.

The event ended and the participants, charged with a good mood from their results and communication with friends, went home.

It won't be long before they find themselves back in Olympus, to once again proudly win or accept defeat with a smile.
